FAQ

Questions families ask first

Mostly about privacy, which is the right instinct. Every answer here is checked against the privacy policy, the biometric policy, and the running product — including the ones where the honest answer is less impressive than the marketing one.

About KeepSaiQ

What is KeepSaiQ?
A private platform for family memory. Family members record twenty-second voice reflections and add photos; the system transcribes them, connects them into searchable threads across generations, and returns montages, recaps, games, and sealed time capsules. It is not social media and it is not cloud storage.
What is Family Intelligence?
The layer between raw family content and family meaning. Storage keeps files; Family Intelligence keeps what they meant — which places recur, which traditions have the longest run, how three generations describe the same kitchen — and makes that navigable.
How long does a memory take to record?
About twenty seconds. That is a design constraint rather than a limit: twenty seconds is the length that survives a real week, and the unit of work being too large is the single most common reason family-history projects stall.
Do I need the whole family to join before it is useful?
No. One other contributor changes the dynamic more than the twelfth does. Most working family archives settle into two or three regular contributors plus occasional additions from everyone else.
Do I need to install anything?
No. KeepSaiQ runs in any modern browser at app.keepsaiq.com, on a phone as well as a desktop, so a relative can take part from whatever device they already use without installing an app. On a phone you can also use the free KeepSaiQ app: from the App Store on an iPhone or iPad, or from Google Play on Android.
Is there a KeepSaiQ app for iPhone or Android?
Yes, both. KeepSaiQ is free on the App Store for iPhone and iPad (iOS 17 or later) and free on Google Play for Android phones (Android 9 or later). On a computer, use it in any browser at app.keepsaiq.com. It is one account everywhere: sign in with the same email, Google or Apple login and your family's memories are all there.

Privacy, security & AI

Who can see our family's memories?
Only the family members you invite. There is no public profile, no feed, no follower graph, and no discovery surface, so there is no audience to be accidentally exposed to and no setting you have to keep defending.
Is KeepSaiQ end-to-end encrypted?
No, and we will not claim it. Content is encrypted in transit and at rest, but our systems read it in order to transcribe recordings, analyse photos, and generate captions and insights. A service that processes your content cannot honestly claim end-to-end encryption.
Is our content used to train AI models?
No. Your family's content is not used to train AI models, and the providers that process it do not use it to train theirs. If that ever changes, we will ask you first.
Does KeepSaiQ recognise faces?
Only if you turn people grouping on; it is off by default. When it is on, a face signature — a numeric representation, not a picture — is stored inside our cloud account, kept separately for each family, and used only to group that family's own photos. Turning the feature off deletes those signatures.
What happens when I delete something?
Voice recordings are purged within minutes rather than held for a recovery window, and the transcript is deleted with them; that is not reversible. Photos do have a recovery window. Deleting your account runs the same erasure across everything you added.
Do you show ads or sell family data?
No. There is no advertising in the product, and family content is shared only with the family members you invite. Service providers each receive only what they need to provide their service, and the complete list is published on the subprocessors page.

Using it

What does KeepSaiQ cost?
It is free to start, on the web and in the iPhone app. Paid subscriptions bought on the web are processed by Stripe, and ones bought in the iPhone app are billed by Apple; either way, we never see or store your card number.
What should we record first?
Something from this week — what happened at dinner, what somebody said that was funny. It feels trivial and it is exactly what people value most fifteen years later. Then do the urgent thing: record your oldest relative naming who is in twenty old photographs.
How do I get a relative who ignores everything to take part?
Ask a specific question only they can answer, rather than inviting them to a project. 'What was Dad like at twenty?' gets answered within the hour; 'come help with the family history' does not.
Will my grandparents be able to use it?
Recording is a single tap and a spoken answer — no typing, editing, or file management. In practice one family member usually holds the phone and asks the question while the older relative simply talks.
Can we record in a language other than English?
Yes, and for multilingual families it is worth doing deliberately. A story told in the language it happened in carries things the translated version does not.
What happens to our archive if we stop paying, or leave?
Deletion is real and immediate rather than a soft archive, which is the property worth testing on day one with any service holding your family's memories. Ask the same question of every alternative you are considering.
